TERMS AND THEIR DEFINITIONS:
HANDLE PULL (or PULL)
These two terms refer to the same piece. Any cabinet hardware piece
that has two mounting locations (requires two screws) will be
referred to as a pull or a handle.
KNOB
A knob is a cabinet hardware piece that has one mounting location
(requires one screw). Knobs are usually thought of as round, but can
be oval, polygon, small "T" bar or any other variation.
CUP PULL
A cup pull is a special type of pull/handle. It is usually open on the
bottom and closed at the top, allowing you to insert your fingers from
the bottom to open the drawer/door.
BAIL PULL
Bail pulls are another special type of pull/handle. They usually are
made with a backplate and the bail is attached to the backplate.
The bail (or the actual "handle" piece that you grab onto) can be
either fixed or free-swinging. Bail pulls are commonly found on
furniture.
RING PULL
Ring pulls are like bail pulls except they have one mounting location
(requiring one screw). They usually are
made with a backplate and the ring is attached to the backplate.
The ring (or the actual "handle" piece that you grab onto) is normally
free-swinging. Like bail pulls, ring pulls are commonly found on
furniture.
PENDANT PULL
Pendant pulls are like ring pulls except they utilize a solid free-swinging
pendant instead of a ring as the "pulling" device. They usually come with
a backplate and the pendant is attached to the backplate, but some
brands make them as separate pieces.
The ring (or the actual "handle" piece that you grab onto) is normally
free-swinging.
ABBREVIATIONS USED ON OUR SITE:
C-C or O.C.
This is used to indicate the center-to-center hole measurement
of cabinet pulls.
DIA
This stands for diameter (the distance across the face at the
widest point) and is normally associated with a cabinet knob.
PRJ
This stands for projection and means how far the piece "sticks
out" from the cabinet door/drawer surface. (Sometimes W is used to
represent this measurement as well).
L or LNG
This is the measurement of the entire length of the pull from end to
end.
